obsession
As the title states,
When one has a problem, Admitting this fact is half way to,,,,,,, making it alright to carry on.
Now have all 3 colours of the Monofil range of vintage Penn reels, with the addition of the very illusive "lipstick " colour.
I HAVE A PROBLEM.
And a bigger one if her indoors ever see's the extent of my said problem..........

Re: obsession
After I strip and clean them up they will be ornaments for me.
They were Penns, first reel designed for nylon, probably around the early to mid 40's, they were as tough as old nails and a lot of die hards still fish with them, they actually punch way above their size. Well, they may fish with the standard colour ones ! black and maroon.
But The coloured ones were only made for 3 years.
The maroon coloured one, which I just got, doesn't show the true colour, I'll clean it up then put a light under it and post a photo, its nick named the lipstick reel as it will come up, kind of a deep pink colour, super rare.
Will be a winter project next year.

Re: obsession
Yeah, you can still get parts for them, but it's way better to keep them original, value wise, even if there's a bit of patina !
The earlier reels, weren't stamped with part no's, from the first reels produced in 32 to about 1940, that's where the real money is.
There are guys in the U.S who specialise in restoration, probably have more parts than Scotts. I'm seriously considering sending one of mine over for restoration, I just wouldn't do it justice, maybe even some harm, it's one of only 13 that are still in circulation, ( retirement fund).
But in all honesty, it's nice to look at them, but my revamped senators that I have tricked up and still fish with are my favourites.

Re: obsession
You hit the nail, right on the head Bayrock.
There simplicity is what appeals the most and the fact, that even though I have 2 or 3 senator 6/0's with tibernion frames and strengthened up inside that i regularly use along side my internationals, the originals still hold line class records to this day, untricked up !
Don't get me wrong, I luv my modern reels to fish with too, but these basic "simpler" reels, have been there and done that, approaching 70-80 years old and can still function ! Maybe we are getting soft !
cheers
