Totally agree mate! I have 2. A 2500 and a 4000. Beautiful reels. A pleasure to use everytime I take them fishing :thumbsup:

I had the old ci4 2500 and 4000 and they just came out, sold them when the new one came out. Kinda regret it.
I'm trying to move away from Shimano reels and going for Daiwa reels.
Daiwa TD sol iii LT kinda match the lightness but it costs like $150 more.

So why change if they cost more if your happy with them?

A bit unhappy with the Stradic 2500 FK I have now. Regret that I sold the old ci4 2500 for getting this FK.

Getting to the current 2500 ci4+ model will cost me $215 or so.
I'm always a fan of Daiwa reels, smoother and feel sturdier, but in the past Daiwa reels generally heavier than Shimano reels
Now that Daiwa has LT models, it's light!

Stradic FK 2500 is 235gm.
Stradic ci4 2500 is 190gm.
Daiwa TD Black LT 2500D is only 180gm.
Daiwa Caldia LT 2500 is 190gm.
TD Sol LT iii 2500 is 175gm.

45gm-60gm can make a difference when casting lures all day.
No issue for bait fishing as mostly stays on a rod holder.

I have the Stradic fk 2500 matched to the shimano nano xt 762 light spin 1 to 4kg feels great my most used soft plastics rod best fish 2kg snapper/pinky when i tryed the same size ci4 on it the balance was crap just felt out of wack .Put the ci4 on the emeraldas match made in heaven so it,s horse,s for course,s ps the ci4 felt great on the majorcraft solpara

Depends on if you’re lure fishing or not really.

If you’re starting out and the budget isn’t quite there I’d pair up a sienna 2500 to any number of rods available. The value for money cannot be beaten. Stradics etc are very nice to use. But that’s all they are really. Can achieve an awful lot with a sienna that will also still be working after a few years of heavy use and cost you 1/8th of the price. Bloody few Melbourne fish will test the limits of a sienna drag.

If bait fishing. A cheap 7’ 2-5kg fibre glass rod will see out most bread and butter species. If lure fishing grabs you perhaps team it up with an entry level catana or whatever the new equivalents are around $60-70. Or a gen black on sale.

You’ll eventually want the wanky gear if you’re serious about the hobby but you don’t “need” it to begin with and you’ll appreciate the nuances of nicer gear once you’ve gotten used to fishing with cheaper stuff. Plus you’ll break less stuff if you start on more forgiving fibreglass before you hit up carbon.

As for nice gear. I have a couple of 4-16lb megabass orochi destroyers 6’8” and Daiwa Luvias 2510-peh. Middle of the range wank gear in terms of price. But bloody awesome. Glassy enough I won’t smash em mishandling. But good enough to cast sigletts and other bass lures or throw 3/8 jigheads with 5” paddle tails for jews etc. Pe1.2 25lb braid tied to 10-25lb leader depending on species and structure. Happy days.

Yes, i felt the 2500 FK was too heavy when I had it on the Solpara.
Kinda balance with the 762 Raider rod, but still a tad heavy. 2500 ci4 was better with the 762 raider.

Yes I had Sienna, gave it to my brother, good reel.
I have reels like Sedona too for bait fishing. And i need light reel for lure fishing.
