Is the sienna spinning combo any good?

Post by Godzilla » Sun Apr 09, 2023 9:59 pm

Hi Any recommendation for a good budget spinning combo under $100.
I'm completely new to fishing and still studying, so would want to get sth less expensive to start with (in case i accidentally broke sth)
I'll be mostly land based and probably fish at pier or near pier just to get a feel of how it is. No big ambition in getting any particular fish at the moment, more like just trying to get some experience in fishing in general, so any general tips for novice angler would be hugely appreciated as well.
My friend recommended me to get this sienna spinning combo from bcf:
https://www.bcf.com.au/p/shimano-sienna ... 5#start=15

but also said that i should get a second opinion as he personally has never used that one before.
Does that combo sound appropriate for someone learning to fish? Or would u recommend another combo? Any suggestions are much appreciated. Cheers

I would get the 7ft 2-5kg one. If you're a member you get it for $99 and thats a good price for that combo. Get yourself some 8lb braid and 8lb leader and it will work great for what you want

The sienna is a pretty nice combo, should easily get to job done fishing land-based!

If you're willing to consider putting a combo together, so purchasing a rod & reel separate you should be able to get slightly better value /quality for around that same price-range.

You've also got the BCF sign up reward which is currently $20 off your first purchase over $100.

I run sienna combos on my kayak, and rate them for general fishing. The rods and reels have a rough life on the kayak with salt water, and won’t hurt the pocket so much if they go over the side. I am still running some siennas from 2 models ago (6 or so years ago?) they haven’t missed a beat. I rinse them after each session, and strip them down and re-grease every year in winter. Good value

Thx for all the tips! Definitely will go take a look at that one at bcf, and sign up for that welcome voucher as well, cheers mate
One final question though, i noticed that anaconda is selling a sienna combo as well for similar pricing as well, are there any major differences between the sienna combos coming out of bcf and anaconda?

If they have the same name and models, then they're the same.

Generally speaking the only difference between anaconda and bcf is that anaconda is slightly more expensive.

If it's the same combo and Anaconda is cheaper, then you can get it 10% cheaper again from BFC
