Re: cheap snapper combo and braid options
yeah im aware of them not sitting on the racks well, these do have a reasonably longish butt section, so hopefully it will be ok.
Theres also glass rods for the same price.

Re: cheap snapper combo and braid options
Thought id bump this up with a live field review of the chosen outfits
Mojiko graphite 4-8kg rod
Shimano Sienna 4000 reel
Daiwa shinboi 30lb braid.
Tested them out on the snapper today and am happy with the results.
First fish wasnt a biggie but loaded the rod up nicely. Second fish lot bigger and i never felt undergunned . It should handle bigger fish that the 5-6kg snapper that we landed with ease.. bycatch like a stingray or gummy will certainly test its limits though.
The reel is a bit on the smaller size for line retrieval purposes only. Everything else is ok. Drag was fine, line lay acceptable. Drag cliker loud enough to alert you if your daydreaming..
If anything i would have liked a bit more backbone on the rod for the bigger fish. But as a rod that wasn't designed for snapper its doing fine as is.
Casting a heavy bait can be done with someone who is experienced. Otherwise dropping bext to the boat is ideal. A running sinker rig can be cast quite a distance. Snapper snatchers with 2 baits need to pay a bit more attention when casting
I will test the rods out on whiting as well when i get a chance and see if they are usable on them. (More overkill than anything) but id say it will be perfectly fine and not so mucb skull dragging them..
In the pic you can see how they sit well in the budget rod holders. And can also see the working curve of the rod on a 5kg snapper.

You're turning your snapper fishing into a science mate haha its good to see younger blokes so into it though!
I'm pretty sure they will be able to catch most fish that grab your bait
