Yeah fly rod is the next try, spent 3 mornings casting at bonefish in Cuba for zero hits so it might take me a while.

I think something else other than line visibility is still a miss here.

I would try a loop knot to let the hook move freely.

Definitely something a bit NQR about what you are experiencing. What brand leader is it? Only thing I can think of is it's cheap shite. I recently spooled my light and dirty baito rod with some old dogtooth brand fluorocarbon. It was utter crap and wouldn't hold a knot at all.

Been using Berkley vanish and stren clear which both break above their rating. I did have platypus pre test as the mainline but that had too much memory so changed it.

I've been using Berkley Vanish and haven't had an issue with it. Caught a 50cm+ salmon on the 10lb stuff at Point Leo a few months back too so the fish have no issue with it. Has yours been left in the car on a hot day or something that might have degraded the line or something?
