You'll probably find a graphite rod is more suitable for casting plastics further than a glass or composite rod at that price point

Re: 20lb Braid too much?
I use that JW braid on my bait fishing outfits, 15lb, it is cheap, strong, will last a lot longer than mono and has the same thickness as 6lb mono. I do use the same stuff on a soft plastics outfit and it works but I will replace it eventually with thinner 8lb, higher quality braid to improve casting distance.MasterBaiter24 wrote:I'm using Jarvis walker Hercules, picked it up on special. Do you know the PE of that line?ducky wrote:Well that just means it’s crappy quality line. Either a bad batch or damaged.
For the OP. Shimano kairiki braid is probably the best widely available braid atm. A 10lb spool of that would do the job if you are currently running 20lb Finns/Aldi braid or the like. It’s the equivalent thickness of a pe0.8 for whenever that becomes important.

Re: 20lb Braid too much?
J-braid for the win here. I say 20lb to heavy for general plastics unless chasing big fish. If starting out go around 12lb. I Used fireline crystal once. It’s like fencing wire and rubbish. Gave spidewire a run. Weak as **** but recon had a bad batch. Than ran tournament exceed for a long time. Not to bad. But am now in love with j-braid possibly more than I fancy my wife.
