Time has to start preparing gear for incoming snapper season.
Got to look amd all the rods and reels and oil up what i need to after a 3 month lay up.

Just wondering what rigs people use for sanpper?
Do people prefer the snapper snatchers?
Or
Run a sinker slider on main line then a swivel and then run a 1+mt trace to your hook?

Or what do you use?

My favourite snapper rig has a snapper on it

but really I just use a sliding sinker rig to a swivel with 1 - 1.2 meter leader - early season 2 - 5/0 j hook snelled about 6 - 7 cm apart with a thin strip bait
tends to hook up better on slow bites
later season when they become better on the chew I go back to Circles

and I dont tend to use snapper snachers just plain hooks

I use a bit of both. In the past the snapper snatchers have caught me plenty and so have a double snelled rig with a small ball sinker :)

I have had a lot of success with the humble paternoster rig too. Mainly with suicide hooks for when they are "biting" and not attacking baits.

But my "put-down" rods are either:

* a paternoster with snatcher style hooks (either home-made or hooks off of ebay then I tie them into rigs) that are circle hooks , , , , they grab , , , , then I lift and load :)

or

* a running bean sinker with two snelled hooks , , , , again , , , , they grab , , , , then I lift and load :)

These rigs are also unfortunately great for Dog Sharks, Port Jacksons and Banjos , , , , go figure :(

I fish shallow for snapper (1.5 to 5m) early season I tend to use just a 5/0 suicide hook with no sinker (or if fishing in a bit of breeze a small pea sized running sinker), then I use home made snapper snatchers later in the season which are 5/0 circles on twisted dropper loops. I am no snapper guru, but these rigs have worked for me

Early season I use a “western port” running sinker rig. Using the ducks nuts sliders they pick up less weed.

40lb fluorocarbon leader to a snelled cpoint hook with a dx on the bottom.

Later in season I run circles.

They look neat! Although how do you prevent the line running from the slider to the sinker from wrapping around the hook leader or main line? To me that is one of the best aspects of ezi-rig type clips

Interesting how people use different rigs early and late season....what sort of setups are you guys using over winter?
*I swear by snapper snatchers
