Trolling sinkers

Post by Wolly Bugger » Sun Mar 03, 2019 11:54 am

The other day, we had luck on the Kingfish when I added a trolling sinker to the line.

fortunately for me, I have some sinker moulds that are 100, 125 and 150 grams, and the sinkers are the same shaped ones used in casting competitions.

All I needed to do was make sure that the wire went all the way through so that I can put the mono through. So made up about 6 today, for use in the future.

Cheaper than a downrigger. The same principle as lead lining

Kind of, they are the grip leads, JS uses them for his distance casting.

They are definitely cheaper than a downrigger, however not as heavy, and whilst a downrigger bomb is generally almost directly below the boat, these trail behind the boat and not as complicated as a downrigger.

The downriggers have three advantages, they can go deeper, the bomb can be picked up on the sounder, and the release clip enables playing the fish without additional weight.

And you can adjust the downrigger depth depending on how deep fish are holding.

I run trolling sinkers on dead baits or squid, but most times liveys will be unweighted
