Best Jig head & weight for Sandworm SPs

Post by Boonanza » Mon Dec 05, 2016 6:44 pm

I bought a couple of packs of the Gulp sandworms to try this year at Bemm river but I found out that you need a Torpedo style jig head to use with them which is different to what I have used in the past. Also there are plenty of different weights 1/16 1/20 1/28 & 1/40oz so I'm not sure which would be best to try. Most of the fish would be from a boat so I don't need to cast a mile. Any advice is appreciated

Any style jighead will work on Gulp worms, it's just the weight that's important. I know a lot of guys who fish 1/8 at the Bemm, they reckon it gives the worm better action. I prefer 1/16 with about 30mm cut off the head of the worm.

Just remember that when you lift and drop the worm, it buries the head in the sand with the tail pointing up. When it lifts it kicks a puff of sand, so the heavier your jighead, the more sand it kicks up. Flatties love it, but too much spooks Bream, so choose your weight with this in mind.

Cheers, Greggo.
