Trying soft plastics - Carp

Post by marckyg123 » Sat Jan 28, 2017 3:55 pm

G'day everyone
I am very new to fishing with soft plastics and I just picked up a bag of strike tiger 1" nymphs, I was wondering what jig heads to pair them up with for Carp as I have found a new spot with some decent commons and a large mirror.
Cheers

As unweighted as possible I believe. Hidden weight 1/32 or lighter. Want them to have to slowest of sinks.

Bread flys might be easier for you though?

Never seen a carp take a sp. If you have any success please let me know as I would love to give it a crack. Might have to try that same method and attempt sight casting to them.

Also, maybe you can dust them in flour to give it a "bready" scent rofl
Species Comp 16/17

Salt: KGW 36cm - Squid 35cm - Salmon 22cm - Flathead 34cm - EP 35cm - Total Salt 162cm

Fresh: Carp 55cm - Total Fresh 55cm

TOTAL : 217cm

As ducky said lightly weight is usually the go, they take plastics and flies but can be incredibly hard to get the take from at times

Unweighted is the go. Very light hws if you need to. Other option is to steal an idea from the guys who spin with flies and put your unweighted sp on a leader behind a bubble float - basically "bubble and fly" technique but with an sp.

If you're just starting with sp there are easier fish to chase. Carp on lures is a bit of a challenge I found.
