Soft plastics
I'm new to soft plastics and have yet to land a fish on one yet.
Can anyone give me some tips on what size for what spieces?
what size jig heads and how to correctly work them etc?
targets : Flathead, Kgw, bream :fish7:

Re: Soft plastics
Hey MP,
For the species you've mentioned try Sp's ranging from 60mm to 80mm.
In sunny conditions don't be afraid to use bright colours, in overcast or duller conditions try darker colours.
Worm style SP's for whiting or bream, curl tail grubs for flatties or bream.
Jig head weights ranging from 1/16oz to 1/8oz, hook sizes from 1 to 2/0.
As far as techniques go, here's how I started off learning, start off by casting out, let the SP sink, take up a little of the slack line, hold the rod pointing directly up towards they sky, then turn your reel handle twice to reel the SP in, holding up the rod will lift the SP off the bottom, when you stop winding it will sink back to the bottom. you can try fast and slow turns of the reel handle (I take it you'll be using a spin reel!).
As you gain confidence fishing with SP's you can start using different techniques. There's plenty of info out there on the net.
That's how I taught my fiance how to fish SP's and she had a 51cm flattie within 10 mins!
Hope you have some similar luck!

Re: Soft plastics
Where ever i fish i always make sure to pack my softplastics and lures, I never go without them! What i do is cast my worm or baitfish plastic out and let it sink to the bottom. You should you the lightest jighead possible but make sure its heavy enough to sink. I do different retrieves with different palstics, for the curltail and worm plastics i would use a really slow retrieve near the bottom and a few flicks here and there and for the baitfish style plastics a faster retrieve with less but bigger flicks. Good luck! :woohoo:
