Red dots on hard body lures...

Post by meppstas » Thu Jun 21, 2018 10:59 am

I recently picked up a few more lures for next season and decided I would dob a few red spots on them to see how they'll go on the trout..
I still have until the 4th August to see how they go, then it will depend on the clarity of the water as it's still Winter when the season opens.. I'm sure I'll find a river or stream that will be running clear enough to give them a go. I know the Austackle Panniku works without the spots as it was that lure that bagged the 8lb 8oz brown on the last day of the trout season.. here's a photo of what I did, just took the point off a tooth pick and dabbed the paint on the lures.. :-D The Strike Pro Smelta lures are unused lures.. I often try a few things with lures and they have worked in the past.

cheers
Adrian

Well there's a reason why Rapala's Spotted Dog is one of the most effective trout lures out there.

None that I know of mate. The red dots are thought to trigger aggression in trout as the dots mimic spawning colours.

Spot on Stumpjumper.. also small brown trout have red spots and with trout being cannibals is another reason I put the spots on the lure.
