Re: Switching Trebles to Singles
I swap out all my trebles for singles on lures. I go as big as I can without them interfering with eachother(hooks) or the line attachment point too much. The trebles do seem to hook up to about anything they come in contact with, be it fish or snags but they are often of fine gauge, break and bend and pick up crap off the bottom or snag up easily. Singles do less damage to the fish, they are much easier to get out of the net, they don't snag or pick up debris from the bottom and when they hook a fish they tend to hold on better. I do agree that trebles probably hook up more frequently but this is a price I'm prepared to pay for the benefits of singles. Each to their own.

you use blades for trout?Stumpjumper wrote:I've found singles have an almost 100% hold on rate compared to trebles which tend to drop fish more often...especially if they jump. Hook up rate is acceptable, I mostly use them trolling and casting for trout.

Ok, I see.purple5ive wrote:whats your reason to go singles?wem21 wrote:What's your reasoning behind keeping the trebles?purple5ive wrote:why do you need to change to singles?
Trebles are best on vibes/blades IMO
if you want to still try singles then use the ecogear zx30 trailer hooks that are available in most good tackleshops
Not trying to sound confrontational but I'm just curious
unless your trolling the blade i dont find it makes any difference.
i keep trebeles because the hookup rate for me is a lot better because of the way i fish them.
then ofcourse theres the snag resistant option with singles, but seriously the 35mm is so small that a single hook is amost useless compared to a smaller treble hook
Im just wondering, what vibes do you use? What colour?

Re: Switching Trebles to Singles
I use the same vibe for bottom vibing, they do tend to snag, or hook stuff off the bottom easily.
To remedy this I replace my trebles with "W" hooks, this eliminates the lower hook of the treble. When it's on the bottom, the two hooks of the "W" point up and greatly reduce the chance of snagging...with no apparent effect on hook-up rate. Another advantage is, they are really easy to replace when old or damaged, no split rings to mess around with.

Re: Switching Trebles to Singles
The A18 would be my most used vibe. I try and use the size 30 mostly, but depending on current and depth I'll swap to the 40, it sinks a lot quicker and less affected by current.wem21 wrote: Oh ok, I see. What vibes do you use?
