Soft Plastics vs Metal blades
Hey guys,
Just wondering, in catching flathead, salmon, pinky and bream what are the differences between these two lures? Which would you say is more effective?
Thanks

Re: Soft Plastics vs Metal blades
I think different conditions suit different lures better. Deeper water probs blades, shallow water sp`s. Also plastics are probs better in snaggy areas as blades tend to get caught up.

Blake is on the money here. In perfect conditions I prefer light jig heads and natural colour plastics. As the conditions deteriorate I use heavier jigheads and brighter colours. In windy conditions, deep water or land based then blades have great advantages in casting distance and getting down deep quickly (also in dirty water, as I just mentioned in another thread).

Re: Soft Plastics vs Metal blades
I don't own a boat or kayak, so 99.5% of the time i fish land based. Would it be worth to skip the plastics and go straight to the blades, even on a good day with little/no wind?skronkman wrote:Blake is on the money here. Have both in your arsenal. To fish light jigheads efficiently will require a decent setup of rod, reel and line or you won't be able to cast very far or feel the plastic. I would start with plastics in good conditions and then go to blades if I'm not having success. Blades are good for covering lots of ground in deep water too.

I used to use a lot of SP but I love the currently available blades/vibes.
I use them all the time they are my go to option for lure fishing now.

I have a sienna with 8lb jbraid and 10lb mono leader with a 6'6 Kmart rod. Still saving for the rod upgrade, are there any good suggestions for upgrade?skronkman wrote:Have both in your arsenal. A 3kg spin stick something around 7ft would be good.
Which brand of rod comes down to what feels good to you but there are plenty of options, from leading brands.

Shimano Catana is one of the cheap popular options.
