Is this the type of lure you are talking about Will?

Thanks Jim, landing that fella was stuff a kayaker has nightmares about!

Here's the styles of fizzers I use. The little frog at the top is the one that caught the big Cod.
You'll notice that I use "W' hooks on my surface lures, that's so I can get them deep into snags and bump around on the timber without snagging...most times. ;-)

And no...the blue pen is not a fizzer.

I have a couple of these lures, didn't know them as fizzers though, cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

Yes Jim, thats the type. Very effective for following up a missed boof, particularly in daylight. You have to keep winding it but if you let it sink just under the surface it makes a loud rattle.

In Greggo's pic second from top is a butt plug, are sorry a buzz plug made by Arbogast. Murlz had one on the cod trip. Its turned out to be a reasonable surface lure.

The other fizzer type lures I have are Dep's Buzjet and the ALM chopper surface lure. The latter is like the old style fishcake lure and is not very big. I have found it is effective in the smaller rivers when the Cicadas are around.

I carry a basic kit of big paddler and snake surface lures but always have one on the wire type fizzers in it. If I am heading out to a smaller stream then I throw in some of the others.

BTW Greggo that was a great fish, I remember you telling the story of its capture in the thread on my metre cod. That is the biggest I have heard of out of the upper Ovens in recent years.

Best Wishes

Bent wire thingo is a buzz bait. The one Jim has put up has a clacker (the triangle off the wire) which hits the blade as it spins.
Lipless crank bait is what is usually referred to in aus as a vibe, the are often used on a constant retrieve like a crank bait in the US and the don't have a bib leading to the lipless part.
