Fair enough. I used to use a baitcaster when lure fishing for bream because it was easier to constantly cast with one hand. And i also used that same baitcaster in my spread of bait rods just because it was there, so why not. But it never really occurred to me to purposely buy one to target snapper.

Running Calcutta 400 on Nitro Godzilla and its become my favourite gummy outfit. Calcutta is light, compact and has plenty of drag compared to a comparably sized threadline. Also get less line twist which is always good for bait presentation. Highly recommend getting a power handle for the calcutta!

What rod do you guys use for snapper?

Most baitcaster rods are about 6' or 6'6". Where my spinning rods are all 7'.

What bay? PPB always used Silstar Crystal Blue Powertip 701swm with a Shimano Tr200g. WP always was Ugly Stik GB-1706 with Charter Specials.

Granted the reels are larger than what you'd call baitcasters

PPB.

I mostly fish up in the top end with one of my favourite spots being about 15km out from Werribee in about 20m of water.

Ive not really had any problems with the outfits i am using now (4-8kg Shimano Sonic and a cheap 4000 Shimano reel, cant remember the exact one). But i am going to look for something a bit heavier for Gummies as it can be a tough task landing them before Sammy the Seal turns up.
