Snapper season Help for begginer

Post by purple5ive » Thu Aug 25, 2016 11:46 am

No doubt all the boaties are looking forward to the snapper run this year,
For the first time, I will also try to get onto atleast one in my Own boat.
Previous to this I have only fished the 7m mark for pinkies as the most furthest spot away from land in my small runabout
I never had a Gps sounder and relied on landmarks and such to help me fish, moreso to make sure I knew where I was and how to get back.

This time however I have a GPS sounder with Navionics gold card (still haven’t installed the card yet and got no idea how to use it either)
And I plan to start getting out a bit more deeper, hence my post here.

I will most likely launch at Patterson lakes, frankston or mornington and am looking for some GPS marks That are not too far to travel to go and try my luck
Not asking for secret spots, just something to start off with.
I most likely wont be launching at peak ramp hours to avoid frustrating others, not the best start but rather safe than sorry for a first timer
I have some maps and such but I got no idea which ones are good and which ones aren’t.
I have heard about the artificial reef, wedding ring etc, but not sure exactly where they are.
And do I fish a tidechange or it doesnt matter.

i have fished for snapper on boats before, but that was before i knew anything about boating, i was just a spectator as such, this time i will have to do everything on my own
Any help will be much appreciated.
cheers

My snapper catching record is disgraceful but you can find snapper marks on the navionics app. No guarantees they'll come up with the goods of course but they might be a decent starting point if you have no where else to aim for
2015/16 Fisting Victoria Species comp total: 289cm
Brown Trout: 37cm
Flathead: 51cm; Squid: 36cm; Australian Salmon: 51cm; Snapper 46cm; Silver Trevally 23cm; KGW: 45cm
Major Sponsor: Rim Master Tackle

Haha yeah i guess that's one way to find a popular spot.
How long roughly does it take to get to the wreck
I guess that's boat and weather dependent but just a rough idea will do.
