Wake-up early and be at your chosen spot, anchored, burley in the water no later than 4.30AM.
Fish until 7AM and if you haven't caught anything, pack-up and go home!

Then if you are still keen, come back and be at your chosen spot, anchored, burley in the water no later than 6.30PM.
Fish until 9PM and if you haven't caught anything, pack-up and go home!
I do not agree with this at all.
That's great then! Less boats on the water at the times I fish hehe :victory:
:a_goodjob: There will still be bucket loads of them.

This time of year they will bite all day.

Yesterday we sounded em up at 3pm, and were bagged out by 4.30.

Early morning and late evening takes a back seat to tide changes the later into the season you go IMO

Hey Scott...do you know if tide changes are that important in Port Phillip?

im sure it would depend on where you are fishing.

I know that some areas have little to no tide, while it rips through other areas.

Having had a quiet season like many anglers I have been reading this thread with interest thinking of myself. Following luluberlu's words of wisdom from an earlier post I changed my approach. I was on water at 430 Sat morning fishing in 17 of Chelsea. Sounded up a couple of fish spread out over 50m roughly and thought Id set up and get the berley going. By 630 in the morning I hadn't had a touch. So I thought that's it, I'm out of here. It was too good of a morning to go home. I sounded from Chelsea to Mt Eliza mostly around 17m mark. Too my surprise only a couple of fish. So I thought stuff it I'm going for squid. I ran straight in and stopped at Canadian bay yacht club. For no reason other than it look nice for a breakfast stop. No 1 deckie (fiance) got on the job. I started chatting to 3 paddlers in kayaks, they said there was squid in the area. I through out a couple of hand lines with floats and whites sephias underneath. We had brekky and it was time to start heading off for a slow cruise home. I wound the hand lines and got a squid on each. Here we go I thought, best get onto this action. I started looking at the boats in the area(2 )and they were all drifting for squid. We fished for the next two hours and landed 14 all up. I noticed heaps of boats over the time we were there arriving and squiding also. We had a ball, it was a beautiful setting, the water was like glass often only with a slite ripple and also crystal clear, sometimes we could see the squid coming at the jig. I tried several jigs but the standout was the white sephia. I only have 3.5 sizes in jigs and they worked fine. The pic with the trails and anchors represents were we drifted and the anchors are were I saw squid get caught. I did this for myself as a reference for the future as I would like to go back.

So I learnt a lot Satdy.
I'm not the only one struggling
Snapper season is still slow, but getting better
Try new things.
Don't give up.
Different spots can be just as awesome
Smaller squid are just as exciting as big squid. OK not really just trying to sound positive as the squid weren't not that big.
But tasted fantastic tonight.
