Jigging for Snapper -

Post by yepi'mon » Wed Mar 29, 2017 1:01 pm

So during the latest Kmart clearance I picked up a fair few of these Ockta jigs and I am thinking for something different why not try them out on some PPB snapper!

Fancy my chances or am I dreaming?

It works everywhere else in 20 metres so I can't see why it wouldn't work in PPB.. The main thing is finding the fish which can be a hassle sometimes !

I've got a heap of these things including 80, 100, 120, 150 and 200g.... so I am thinking I'll start with the 80 and see how it goes!

Most of the guys I know who use the octa jigs just stick them in a holder as you drift and let the rock of the boat do the trick

Never got around to rigging them up last time I was out for snapper - will be trying them out some time in the future though!

I haven't used them on snapper down here but I've used them a fair bit up north. They are ok, but nowhere near as effective as a plastic. You can cheat and put little squid strips on the hooks and they work much better.

Still I reckon nothing like the real thing. Real bait usually would be more attractive for any fish. Would any of you eat plastic or rubber??? If there is a large school of fish and they were all competing for the snippet of bait or a lure - one of them will quickly suck it in before another one gets it. If there is no pressure I reckon a fish will take its time and reject it. That's my view on these lures/jigs. I still am yet to catch a fish on one. It sits in my tackle bag.
