Re: Trouble Sounding fish
If the fish are lying down in the crevasses of the rocks, waiting for some interesting food to drift by, then they will never show on the sounder, till they come out for a feed. I have seen this with a vid camera. I have also seen them go for not on the sounder to on the sounder and sonar as they get into a feeding frenzy and start swimming up out of the rocks.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

Re: Trouble Sounding fish
I can see the line and sinker desending in the water on the sounder a few times but no fish lol.
Sounder must be working rite.
Can only see fish if they are off the bottom or out from rocks.
Ibthink from memory the sonar picks up the micro air bubbles that are attached to anything in the water

Re: Trouble Sounding fish
Narrower beam angles and shorter transmission pulses give better fish detection near the bottom. Wider beam angles and longer pulse lengths give better detection of fish away from the bottom.

Re: Trouble Sounding fish
Furuno have a white line feature to help pick up fish on or near the bottom. This may help you with what the other members are suggesting I haven't fished PPB but I wouldn't imagine the reef structure has any crevices etc. Give it a go next time I have a 588 and use it in western port got a 1kw transducer but run the P66 it does the job. Hope that can help cheers.

Re: Trouble Sounding fish
Id imagine where the member is fishing in PPB would be anything from 8-20m not that I fish PPB I have caught all my fish this season in less than 6m of water I like the wider cone angle. Not that I have had many chances to get out lately the best fish this season went 8kg dropped one that was close to or bigger and got some good 5kg fish too.re-tyred wrote:Narrower beam angles and shorter transmission pulses give better fish detection near the bottom.
