I use No4 Mustad 92608 Hooks SS Long Shank same as the ones for Whiting, works well for me
Whats that saying? Big hooks catch big fish, small hooks all fish.

1/0 is pretty much spot on id say, what bait are you using, maybe the hook point if covered and not penetrating properly. also if your using circle hooks then you DO NOT STRIKE....

I've been using flesh baits like Tommy rough and flathead fillets mostly. Hook point always well exposed. The big ones keep dropping off after a few runs, the hook just pops out. Haven't tried circles yet.

I've landed a 3kg fish before on the 1/0 but the hook didn't actually go through the mouth, just lodged on the top jaw, so it dropped off right after landing. Hence why I'm thinking I need bigger hooks.

Interesting on the drag. I always thought it dropped off because of too much tension. Also I'm only using 10lb braid so I can't go too tight

think of it like this, big hooks catch big fish, smaller hooks catch ALL fish. Targeting pinkies, I would use either a 1/0 kl suicide, 2/0 circle and sometimes a 3/0 circle. For snapper, I use 3/0 and 4/0 circles, there is no need to go bigger as if you are fishing 5/0's, you will lose some of the smaller fish around the 30-40cm mark.
