Re: SALMON!!
& the other coast as well, clean water anywhere from Torquay/Anglesea, all the way up the Great Ocean Road. You'll see plenty of fishermen as you make your way up..
I've always found day time to be more productive, particularly sunrise/sunset. A lot of experienced fisho's on the forum do great on lures, i predominantly bait fish. For the surf my choice of gear is generally 11' or 12' with 6000'ish size reel with 20lb line. As for rigs, paternoster generally does the trick, with pillies or chicken as bait. You can use a surf popper too, some days they smash em..
Look for deep clean gutters (where the waves don't break) & they generally swim in schools, big ones at that, so where there's one there's usually more..

Re: SALMON!!
Not sure about land based but they've been around the top end of the bay for the past few weeks or so active around sunrise. I've caught a few off Altona on plastics.

Re: SALMON!!
I caught a stonker of Altona on Saturday.
I was at anchor and saw them on the surface coming my way so I put a slug on my rod and started casting. It was a big school too but I only got two to strike the lure. I also had whiting rod in at the time which had its hook bitten off after a short run.
I figure they have been in the bay for a while they seemed to know what a lure is, but they are good sized fish

Re: SALMON!!
Nice haul, cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
