Jack ‘Yabbie’ Wells

Post by Kestrel » Tue Jan 22, 2019 7:54 pm

Hi folks
Just wondering whether Jack ( of Rex Hunt radio show fame) is still catching his beloved whiting or has he left us?
I met Jack once at the boat show and he was very generous with his time and a bloody good fisherman!

I remember listening to Rex and Jacks banter on the radio in the late 70s and Jack would use crumpets for berley. He gave us the bread and butter advice without all the gadetry and hype that now egulfs fishing. I think the crumpets were from where he worked.

Yes. Jack was the straight man and Rex was the clown.
He was a whiting specialist and had no time for all the 'stuff''we now think is essential as far as gear is concerned.
As mentioned I met him just once and he was generous with his time and advice.
Cheers

YES, i met him a few times at Black Rock Ramp. He was a true gentleman. Gave advice freely, totally unpretentious, said "follow me and anchor close", caught about 6 or 7 whiting to my 1. A master. gave me loafs of bread once. His gear was so basic as was his boat. RIP Jack.
