Strange hookups

Post by cobby » Mon Oct 14, 2019 9:38 pm

Anyone else foul hooked something in the strangest way?

This little EP was quite unfortunate early Sunday morning, obviously took a swipe at the plastic and missed, only to be wedged in the gape of the hook by the bony section at the rear of the gill cavity. Was released with perfectly intact gills, no puncture hole from the hook point and not a single drop of blood

Fishing in my local, i kept having these weird hookups, then lose fish. But would come back with scales on the hook point. Happened for ages. They were heavy hookups too. Was driving me bonkers.
Then one day it came up tight. After a great fight...a Luderick came up. Pinned in the same spot as yours. Obviously had a swipe at it and the hooks stuck!

I had something run and run and run while spinning at gunnamatta, to the point where I thought I’d hooked a decent kingfish. Turned out I’d just foul hooked a 60cm salmon next to its a*******.

I had a short finned pike tie itself in a half hitch after swinging at a Busted 75 and missing one day. Couldn't for the life of me figure out what i'd hooked, reeled it in and had the line tide around it's body about where the gills are, biting in slightly like a half hitch around a pillie tail.

Hooked a near kilo brown at lilydale lake in the side on a powerbait bait set-up years ago - being a bait set-up, was odd it getting hooked on the side.

I had a scallop clamp on my line while I was drifting PPB last year.
Very tasty 😋

I was fishing just up from cowes pier and caught a bug like a morten or Balmain bug. Tasted great.

Fishing for reds in WP one day I caught a 4ft hammer by its tail. The hook had simply wrapped round it's tail and hooked back on the trace. The hook didn't penetrate whatsoever. Freaky! Can't imagine it ever happening again!
