Packing for a Whitsundays Fishing Holiday
Travelling to the Whitsundays in June to do some barefoot boating and was hoping to try some bait fishing & troll/cast some lures to what’s on offer (Spanish Mackerel, Tuna & Coral Trout from what I’ve read)
Anyone got any tips as to what gear I should be packing? (need to keep it pretty light and simple for the plane trip)
*looking at buying a couple a travel rods for the trip, so any advice there would be greatly appreciated as well (or should I just pack a couple of 1 piece rods into a 2mt tube and pay the oversized baggage fee?)
Never done anything like this before, so all advice will be greatly appreciated.

Can't speak for other airlines but with virgin you can just prepurchase an extra piece of luggage for your rods in a pvc tube, think the max length is something like 3m

Flying Virgin there and Jetstar on the way back (I think its an extra $25 each way for oversized baggage?).... was more worried about trying to get cabs etc with a 2mt tube.

Buy the shimano revolution travel rod in your preffered rating and pair with a nice 4k or 5k daiwa bg reel and your done. Nice and cheap and will work without breaking the bank.
Then spend some money on halco divers and stickbaits, some zman plastics, jigheads and some halco twisties..
All these can be had from anaconda on specials quite often.
Thats what I was going to do but covid ****** that up..

I can assure you travelling with a big arse rod tube is an absolute PITA. Cannot fit into cabs, cannot store in lockers, or anything like that.
My advice don't do it!
Did that once. Never again..... travel rods ftmfw!!!!!

Yeah I was getting the 15kg one. I think it's the size under this one.
They look like they are under rated but being a travel rod maybe it needs to be beefed up a bit.
I suggest seeing it in person before buying.
Veritas also do a few travels models that you can have a look at.

Re: Packing for a Whitsundays Fishing Holiday
I have no local advice as I have never fished there or travelled in planes with rods unfortunately so the only thing I can add is do not wear the shirt in the pic when fishing it is just terrible.
