Re: motor transport
If you put a 4 stroke on the wrong side, sump oil will get into the cylinders.keep_itsimple wrote:Yeah it is, why what if it was a 4 stroke

Re: motor transport
Think of your 4 stroke lawnmower, to empty the sump oil it has to be tipped onto one side only, usually the handowners booklet tells you, there maybe a sign on the lawnmower to tip only onto this side.keep_itsimple wrote:Did not know that
The problem with oil in the cylinders is that when someone tries to start the motor, oil does not compress, so damage can occur.
If by chance oil or even water gets into a cylinder, before even trying to start, take out all sparkplugs, and give the motor a good turn over, to spit as much of the fluid in the cylinder out through the sparkplug port.

Re: motor transport
Best to ask your outboard dealer, or read the the owners manual if you have one. Generally speaking (don't quote me) even with 2 strokes, it is suggested that if they are laid on their side, the sparkplugs should be facing upwards.keep_itsimple wrote:So does it matter what side the motor lays flat
For example I have a 15hp Merc, the sparkplugs are on the right hand side, so the right hand side should be facing up if the motor is laid flat.
Is the 15 Yammie a 4 stroke or 2 stroke?
and that is the limit of my knowledge.
