Bernie 26,2,17 1.1.1

Post by Nude up » Sun Feb 26, 2017 8:14 pm

We woke this morning to a nice sunrise and a medium wind,we launched around 7am and headed to the middle of the 12mile we spent 40 minutes looking for bait plenty on the bottom but non up high. We bit the bullet and put on 2 10oz sinkers and dropped 60 fathoms straight away the rod loaded up then the grind to winch them up a couple of shots and the bait tank was full.
We stitched some up as skip baits and headed north the radio chatter was bait up high. We skipped our way till we found bait at 20 fathoms then swapped over to lives we spent an hour trolling around the bait for no takers. We saw two free swimming marlin but they weren't interested. We decided to swap to skip baits to cover more ground.
As I was winding in the livie I saw a marlin behind it I dropped the reel into freespool and it hit the bait it pulled line drag lifted to strike and we are on.
The black marlin jumped like mad at the start I have some awesome GoPro footage on the second jump the live bait came flying out of its mouth but I stayed connected happy days. After the first ten minutes of jumping it went down and stayed there for the next twenty minutes what a slog pump and wind then lose all the line I won eventually it comes to the boat tuna tube traces the fish tag goes in and the tube says look at the hook it's wrapped around the bill a bit of slack and it comes off perfect release but no photo holding the fish by the bill.
I put in a photo of the 300lb trace it was clear when made but is now all cloudy with the tension and abrasive bill I also took a screen shot of one of the jumps.
In the end I have a 90 to 100 kg black marlin on the board tuna tubes up next.
