Point Lonsdale tuna report
Yesterday I took advantage of the calm day and called in sick. Plan was to go solo out the Heads and troll for tuna.
Launched at Sorrento at 10AM and headed out in glass conditions.
As soon as I passed the Heads, I could see the incredible amount of boats on the water (at least 50-60 boats trolling up and down). It literally looked like a highway.
There was non-stop bird action everywhere, dolphins as well as seals. It wasn't long until my sounder picked up one of the many schools of baitfish, so I started trolling too.
After 6 hours of actionless trolling, I pulled the pin and headed back to ramp. No-one else had caught anything.

I was told a 101kg tuna was taken through the rip on Wednesday and a bigger one lost. Havnt seen any photos but from a pretty reliable source.

Re: Point Lonsdale tuna report
Yeah you get those days when nothing you try works. But that is fishing and on a good day you may bag out....
I've found that when there are heaps of boats around, some of them drive straight through the patch of fish rather than picking off the edges of the frenzy. They drive the fish deep and they will not take your trolling lure. If you see the bait ball deep on your sounder and can distinguish the larger fish from the baitball, you can slow your boat down and downrig to the right depth and troll there. But you need a down rigger and need to slow your speed down. That may work when boats are everywhere and they are driving the fish deep.
