Australia day in the Strait
Heard a few reports of SBT off Cape Shanck so had a crack today. Out early from Stony good run to the Shanck and put out some lures. Couple of Xraps and 2 Pakula skirts. Trolled all day up and down the coast and out to 40 fathoms to no avail. Lots of boats out but no one got squat. Always the way. Should have been there last week or the other day. Nice day for boating!

How was it off the Schank? and if you don't mind me asking what do you look for when targeting tuna?Duffman wrote:Heard a few reports of SBT off Cape Shanck so had a crack today. That's basically all you can do. Cover the miles to get the smiles (fish). Always look for clean blue water as opposed to **** green stuff.rb85 wrote:Smile it's a big ocean so onto of that is there anything else?
They have been closer to the island than the schanck the last week, so it's likely they were further east meaning the report chasers were in the completely opposite direction to the fish.

Not really.rb85 wrote:Smile it's a big ocean so onto of that is there anything else?
Some people drive all day for 5 days in a row with no fish.
Thats fishing mate.
Not much else you can do except keep a eye out
Bigger the ocean the worse your luck is mate.
No other real tips.
Try reading current reports and good luck

As a good example of fish moving around Bateman's Bay GFC had a tournament a fortnight back and on the first day about 65 Marlin were tagged - and on the next two days almost nothing! The fact that pelagic fish like Tuna and Marlin are around one day may mean very little the next.
