Re: need help with tuna rig
Why would you use a running rig for tuna, tuna are pelagic top of the water column not on the bottom. I take it you have never fished for them before.

Re: need help with tuna rig
With tuna you either pull lures or bait. (live or dead) but they are unweighted so they just drift down if dead with the burley trail or live bait under a balloon. But tuna tube knows best on the subject so listen to him.

Re: need help with tuna rig
If you want to put say a kingfish rig on you just snap it on to the snap swival at the end of the wind on, if you want to bottom bash per say just snap you paganosta rig at the end of your wind on, if you want to have a running sinker rig for gummys, leave your wind on along and just put a loop in one end of your new bit of trace line, snap it on to the snap swival leave about 3 foot of line, put your sinker easy slider on that bit then tie off too a swival then a meter of line and your hook.

Re: need help with tuna rig
Dano don't take this the wrong way, but exactly how much fishing experience do you have? And how much boat experience have you got? If for the latter you've got minimal and are heading to Portland in your own little 5.2m cuddy because everyone else catches Tuna and you want in I'd seriously reconsider. The Southern Ocean is no PPB off Altona. Yes there's magic days, awesome mornings etc. But it can, and does blow up something shocking alot of the time and the shelf is a freaking long way out. The last thing anyone wants is a scenario similar to the mh370 debacle of chasing nothing in the middle of nowhere after **** hits the fan.
As far as setup with 15kg gear, I'd do what ducky said and run a long 10m or so double with a ball bearing snap swivel on the end, where you can clip on either a bait rig or lure running 120-150lb leader right at the business end.
