Mallacoota dusky flathead

Post by ducky » Wed Apr 22, 2015 5:15 am

Gday all.

Have never been to mallacoota despite it being one of my bucket list destinations. A few friends of mine have fished the reel it in flathead challenge. A couple of them won it 2 years ago. I've put my hat in the ring this year to take the boat down and have a crack. I have the Rods/reels/lures/leaders sorted. But having never been to the place I'd like to do as much research as possible.

I was hoping someone could point me in direction of the best maps of mallacoota? For some reason my navionics app doesn't show any details of the inlets. I want to do as much study of the inlets as possible. I assumed there would be an AFN style book of Mallacoota but a cursory search isn't turning one up.

Current plans are to leave home early Thursday. Prefish Thursday arvo and all day Friday before the comp sat/sun. Hopefully can put in a good showing (and catch my first dusky, haha) because there's some pretty sweet prizes up for grabs.

Go to this link and you will see a google map type presentation with all the East Gippsland on water assets, ramps, toilets, channel markers etc
Goodwin sands(the big shallow area in bottom lake and the arm to the north of it are renown flathead areas.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

Cheers for the kind words. Just picked up a 3rd member of the team. Piscuteur for those on BM/old av. Just scored some local knowledge.

I'll keep a look out for some old books or something.
