Thanks for all the replies. I thought id caught tiger flathead before out the front of kilcunda. But they cant of been because they didnt have teeth. Must of been sand flatty..

I didnt get a photo of the fish from above. It had some spots on its tail. It was a bit lighter than the normal bluespot flatty i catch i guess.

Caught it in 50 ft of water near buoy 12 in westernport. The fish was 39 cm

Tiger flatty taste the same as bluespot? Haven it tonight so should be good

Yeah,, tigers are good eating. Never caught them.within the Port itself before, but that's not really saying much. The ones I've caught have been quite slim, when viewed from above, but quite thick when viewed from the side, if you can make sense of what I'm saying.

Tigers are normally rounder then sand and blue spots

Apart from the teeth this flatty looked pretty stock standard. Different markings on its tail and perhaps a shade lighter.
Definitely the same shape though. Not thicker not skinnier. Maybe he was lost and fitted in with the crowd....

They fatten up the bigger they get. Once around 50-60cm they get distinctively wider and rounder than sandys or yanks. Best eating of the lot too

Just ate the tiger flatty.

To be honest i thought they would all be the same. The tiger seems lighter in texture and very sweet. I probably sound like a flog and a masterchef hero. But honestly i think its the best flatty ive ever eaten

Like crumpet said, lighter texture and a little sweeter. Probably has something to do with diet as its mostly sand eels, silver Whiting etc they eat vs a mixture of crustaceans and fish.
