Hi guys, I'm new to the soft plastic fishing scene. Thinking about targetting Flathead off St Kilda pier over the next week or two, any advice or tips on things like time of day, tides, specific types/colours of plastics or just general.

Hi dannyb98, I'm no expert of st kilda pier but i used to fish Altona pier a lot and caught variety of fish including flathead. I used squidgy wriggler in bloodworm colour 110mm or squidgy flickbait white colour 100mm. I used 1/8 jig head but that's because the water there isn't that deep.
Use 10lb line (fluorocarbon leader is best) and fish incoming tide at sunrise/sunset.
Generally pier fishing is good during incoming tide and sunrise/sunset.
Good luck.

I find flatties aren’t too fussy mate.
I have caught them with most kinds of plastics I have used small and large
I usually use a 1/8 or a 1/6 jig head.
