Bonnie Doon 26/12/14
I was visiting my folks for Xmas, who live near Mansfield, so going fishing at Bonnie Doon is always on the cards.
I started a couple of clicks from Kennedy's Point, walking along the shoreline, towards KP. Conditions were early twenties, with a slight breeze, and thankfully not too many boats out and about.
I started with a mud guts spinner lure, after speaking with one of the staff at the fishing and gaming shop in Mansfield. After two hours of fruitless spinning for yellow belly and Murray cod, I changed lures to the smaller rapala cd3 minnow, a lure I've had the most interest with on my previous visit to BD.
Around 4pm, I finally found some fish, a handful of tiny redfin. After a photo, each fish was returned to the lake.
If anyone had any suggestions on how to land some decent sized fish on bonnie soon, please pm me, as I have nfi.

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish

Still would've been fun no matter how small the fish were - in regards to getting bigger fish, try to locate some snags and stick to casting around them. Thats where the cod/yellas/big reddies would be hiding I reckon.

Re: Bonnie Doon 26/12/14
Brings back lots of memories for me, I used to fish these waters as a kid 20-25 years ago so I can't help you with anything recent! We used to fish it in a number of ways, scrub worms on the bottom with a tiny sinker acountered for many fish from Trout, Roach, Redfin and Carp. Although the biomass of Carp become so big that bottom fishing became pretty tough. I have caught my PB Redfin there from a boat in the trees a 5 and 1/4 pounder on a scrub worm.
We used to pick up trout spinning or under bubble float with mudeyes but generally on daybreak or fishining into the first hour of light. When we found a school of Redfin you can pick them up on anything from jigging to spinning to bait, although in my experience the bigger ones aren't in schools. Great place and back in the old days we used to pick up some very good fish in b/w the hoards of Roach and Carp.
