Ferntree Gully Quarry 27/09/15

Post by arabshark » Mon Sep 28, 2015 4:32 pm

It was a beautiful day yesterday so I decided to hit up Ferntree Gully Quarry for the first time after hearing reports there are redfin there. The trek down was a little bit of a pain as I had to crawl under a fence, but the water quality there is fantastic and the surroundings are very picturesque.

I set up in the middle of the lake, and cast out right down the middle using a running sinker rig with scrub worm for bait. Anyways, it took about half an hour before my

bell started ringing for what seemed like only a couple of timid bites. So I left my bait on for another 10 minutes then started to reel in and I felt some weight on the line. Originally I though I was snagged but much to my surprise, there was a beautiful little redfin amongst the weed. The 2nd redfin I've ever caught, returned unharmed to be caught again when bigger :)

That was all for the day. Fished from 11am-2pm.

Cheers, A.S.

I've been thinking about the double here then TNA for carp, might wander down tonight if I can get back out of bed.

Yeah going down the hill and under the fence is a pain but it is a really nice spot. I've only fished it once with a mate; I caught nothing but mate caught a reddy on a small paddle tail soft plastic. Similar size to the one in the photo above. The water was crystal clear the day I went (a few months back). Don't know if the fence means you are not suppose to be there or if it's just to stop small, unsupervised children drowning.

TNA has been drained and out of action unfortunately! There were some massive carp in there too! The next closest spot for carp is Liverpool Rd Retarding Basin. I caught a nice fat mudsucker there off a scrub worm a few months ago.
