Thanks for the sugestions fellas. I did hook a big cod but ill say it was a carp cos it makes me angry knowing i lost a nice sized cod. It didnt run like a carp it just came to the surface and dived down a few times then spat the hook.

Also try peeled prawn, works well in the Goulburn ;) cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

Yabbies work best for me 3 to 4 inches in length, the way the weather is you will do real well 1hr before sun rise to 2 hrs after and Dave is on the money with the prawn.

Prawn! Never would of thought that although it is close to shrimp. Does everyone release cod back to the yarra? I couldnt kill a cod after having a pet one and i heard they dont actually breed in the yarra?

I can't see why they wouldn't breed in the Yarra, I release all the cod I catch anywhere, cheers davo

They breed in there for sure as I've seen tiny 20cm ones caught.

Mate got a 92 cm last yr on coon cheese in eltham when I went with him.

I fluked a 20ish cm cod in Eltham back in December, just on a normal compost worm lol didnt even realise I had actually hooked anything at first coz after the first go it just chillaxed on the line :-/
Others friends have been attempting cheese & worms but only caught a lil reddie lately so scrubbies or yabbies are your best bet I rekon

4 fisherman last night.
2 dropped (1 was me) and 2 caught. (Both by me)
All on cheese.
Bardi got no interest, as with large (6") scrubies and 3-4" yabbies
