Weedless vs regular jigheads

Post by wem21 » Wed Jan 17, 2018 6:08 pm

Hi all,
The title says it all. Would you rather a weedless or a regular jighead for targeting flathead, bream and pinkies?

I have never had good experence with weedless heads. Normal jig heads all the way for me. They suit some situations but if fishing land based around ppb then regualr jigheads will do.

Use regular Jig Head and insert hook as you normally do, except do not expose the point of the hook = Weedless

Weedless only if fishing snags/rocky areas/weedbeds/heavy reef etc. Where the hook point can get snagged thus loosing your lure.
In normal situations i would never use a weedless jighead.

Been using the weedless jig heads quite a lot recently and had absolutely no problems with them. Just a lot less weed, especially as when I'm after flatties I often just drag the plastic along the bottom with pauses and jerks. Tried going back to normal jig heads at one of my favourite spots and was back on the weedless after 3 casts. Just got to make sure you have the correct size hook for the plastic you are using.

I’d have no problem using weedless jig heads for flathead and pinkies .
But for bream, I want something fine gauge and pointing the right way
There is always more to learn , fish to catch , places to see and friends to make.

I prefer weedless for a plastic that’s just dragging on the bottom while I drift

In the Gippsland Lakes weedless jig heads open up a whole lot of territory that is unfishable with conventional jig heads so I often use them and have plenty of success.
Cheers Ango.
