Best knot for braid to thick leader (not FG)

Post by Sebb » Wed Jan 09, 2019 6:45 pm

I'm preparing for the next cod hunt. I'm a noob at cod fishing. Got all the lures ready and about to re-tie the knots.
Other than FG knot (I think it's too hard and need a lot of effort), what's the best easy knot to tie a 30 lb braid to a 50 or 60 lb fluorocarbon leader? A knot that will go through the ring guides easily.

I use the Albright knot and haven’t had a problem with it yet. It’s easy to tie and not to big going through the runners.

Just learn to tie the FG, it’s really straightforward with a bit of practice and I prefer it over all others sitting in the kayak with wet fingers

I also agree the FG is a beauty. Took me a bit of practice to learn but was well worth it

Yeah everyone suggests FG. I tried allbright few times before but it slipped once (when i got snagged).
Guess mastering the FG is the best to do.

Improved albright knot, never had one fail caught over 60 cod in excess of 1 metre and a few over the 100 pound mark, not one failure, also use is for the salt no failures there either

only problem can be a bit thick knot through rods with small eyelets, such a G'loomis and some others

Slim beauty is my choice for braid to leader 9 turns for heavier braid 50lb plus and 11 turns for lighter braid under 50 lb
Trim to about 1.5 millimetre on the leader side and should have no problem through most small guides
(can be even shorter if you can mushroom the tag end with a lighter)

forgot to add a loop knot for your lures, used clips years and years ago and a few opened so the loop knot is a good one to learn, gets the best action from the lure

I use both the FG and modified albright knots.
FG is worth learning as others have said.
