Pinkie fishing - Improvements, feedback and suggestions please

Hi all,
I went fishing on 15/04/2019, which was yesterday at Mornington Pier. My target species was a King George Whiting, but then I switched to Australasian Snapper (basically pinkies). The only bait I had were pilchards and pipis. I managed to hook up a 27-centimetre pinkie; 1 centimetre below the legal size limit! I am planning to again on Thursday (18/04/2019). This time, I might buy a wider variety of baits, for different species; most likely I'll buy squid. I used a red-coloured Jarvis Walker 7-foot rod, which seemed to work very well with the environment.
PLEASE GIVE ME IMPROVEMENTS, FEEDBACK AND SUGGESTIONS.
