Trout Fishing

Post by solararrow94 » Wed May 22, 2019 1:07 am

Hi all,

I’m planning on heading up near Warburton this week for a bit of fish and I’ll be targeting Trout. I’m either going to the Yarra where it goes through Millgrove/Warburton or Watts River in Healesville. Has anyone had success in these areas recently? I’ll be bait fishing and using a few lures.

Haven't fished there for a while but usually yarra around Warburton can run a bit fast for bait, better to use floating lures and retrieve fast'ish. You probably can use bait if you can find slow moving deep pool.
Don't think yarra river is stocked with trouts, so if possible and you don't mind, if you do catch the big girls, please let her go back to breed.
And good luck!

Definitely fish there, not stocked as mentioned. If i was bait fishing for trout there - id be always on the move and drifting worms through runs and pools for your best chance at trout. If stationary bait fishing, your more likely for blackfish and redfin only. Watts river will suit stationary bait fishing more as its less water than the yarra.

Lures - everything listed in recent trout lure thread will work.
