Yabby Fishing

Post by Christos » Wed Jan 06, 2016 1:26 pm

Hey Guys,

Cant find any info on the forum about this.
Wondering if there are any public area around melbourne particularly around taylors lakes/airport west/Sunbury that can
produce a feed of yabbies?
Also is it legal to collect yabbies from public land or national parks?

Cheers Guys, any help will be greatly appreciated.

I don't know about where in your area you would find yabbies.
You can catch them on public land & parks, but there is restrictions on what you use & how many you can take.
Best bet is somebodies dam, with permission of course.
Read the book you get with your licence or read online at vicfish

Cheers

Hey Christos, their is a small lake/dam at Canterbury Hills estate in Sunbury at the end of Canterbury ave that has a lot of yabbies, there is 2 small dams located at the back along the walking track, i have caught quite a few in those a couple of months ago.
Spavin lake also has yabbies.

Thanks for that Chad, have been looking for a place within around half an hour to make a trip to on a regular basis.
Wonder if there is any fishing is Spavin lake also, would be great if there were mullet in there.
Cheers.

Will try my luck at the redfin and trout between checking the hoop nets.
Picked up a few today hoop nets today and cant wait to get them into the water.
Never fished for or caught a redfin or trout before so i could be in for a treat.
Do you think the yabbies would be go for eating from out those dams or to be used as bait Chad?
