A while back a read a post (I think it might have been by Cornacarpio) that mentioned a fishing style called Tenkara.
I bought a few odds and ends this week online from the USA, a company called AvidMax. They are very good to deal with.
AvidMax
Their website features a large amount of Tenkara gear. Well worth a look and very interesting. (Lots of other cool gear too) !

Re: Tenkara
Let us know how it goes! Are you likely to try it out over winter or leave it for the warmer months?
cheers

Re: Tenkara
Hi Jim, I didn't buy any specific Tenkara gear but over the years I've tried fishing a modified style of Tenkara from time to time, mainly using a light English 13 foot match rod and reel spooled with 3lb mono.
My version is more like the old English style of fishing called dapping. To be effective you need a breeze behind you.

Re: Tenkara
The only time I would use a 13 foot rod in freshwater would be if there were crocs in there! Then that likely wouldn't be enough for me! Good to see some experimentation going on!Whiskers wrote:.............. using a light English 13 foot match rod and reel spooled with 3lb mono...............
Re: Tenkara
What are you planning to catch with this method? I can only see it working on small stream small trout, any decent size fish would just break you off
