Toolondo bad news.
Toolondo bad news.
I read this article in yesterdays Herald Sun seem that if no substantial rains hit that area the lake could be lost by Christmas, very sad news as its a place that I always loved going to. It seems the Wimmera and Glenelg river have a higher environmental priority so no water will be redirected to the lake. Hope the rains come soon to that area and the lake survives.

That is very sad news it was a magnificent lake when it was full.
A smart person knows what to say. A wise person knows whether to say it.

Yes that is a tradgety, I have had many a good fishing there over the years and probably is a world class Trout fishery but at the end of the day there just isn't enough water to go around up there and the 2 rivers you mentioned are vital to all the local farmers up there. As far the local economy goes well this isn't one because there are no shops or buisnesses any where near there. I am not against saving the lake but I think the lives of local farmers is much more important, shame coz it's a great lake

Re: Toolondo bad news.
Maybe the storages downstream are still low or something. Could be that the top soil was so dry there wasn't much runoff into the rivers too.
Whatever the actual reason, farming is more important than recreational fishing so maybe this is just something we have to live with until we get a few years of good rain. If we're lucky the flows down the Glenelg will improve the health of the fishing down there.

Some parts of the state are still very dry some considered drought.
IMO time to turn on the desal plant and get the water where it is needed.

Don't think the desal plant is connected to anything other than the Melbourne water grid.

Re: Toolondo bad news.
Id imagine there's things that feed the melbourne grid that could then be utilised?
I don't have a political opinion one way or the other with the Desal plant. But it is a definite asset to have moving forward.
Seriously though. For the amount of money invested in places like toolondo surely feeding it enough water to have it survive isn't really that much? It doesn't need to thrive. Just give it enough for it to pull through.
