Lake Elizabeth

Post by Eug1 » Mon Feb 26, 2018 9:16 am

Hi all, just returned from a few days camping with the family up at Lake Elizabeth in the Otways. Had the chance to flick a lure around for a little while with no success but I'm convinced the place has potential. Had the kids and Mrs with me so was a little pushed for time, and unable to really explore around.
Met another guy back at the campground who had success downstream along the little river (East Barwon?) which flows by the campground. He had found a few small pools that were holding trout. He said he used worms.
No luck fishing, but it's a beautiful location and i wouldn't hesitate to go back again.
Cheers, Eug.

Just looked it up -- looks like a beautiful spot & very fishy
How much did it cost ??, I thought they'd done away with charging for camping, obviously not.
Cheers Gra

Might not have been any fish but sounds like a beautiful few days spent with the family.

Been a long time since I’ve been there but I think it is a land locked lake that was formed from a landslide in the eighties. I don’t think anything has ever been stocked in there and as such there is prob not much to catch. But it is a seriously lovely spot. There is meant to be platypi in there too.

Hi Texas, it was $27 per night. Unpowered, tent only, no cars at the campground, super quite. We loved it.

Hi Benders, signs in the area said it was formed in early 50's by landslides after heavy rains. Given trout were downstream from the lake, would it be possible they had come from further up? Not much water flowing while i was there, but plenty of indications that it runs fairly deep at times.
Cheers.
