Fairly new to freshwater fishing
Hey all, I’m fairly new to fresh water fishing, I’ve lived most of my 29 years in Melbourne and Sorrento, recently moved to Castlemaine and am very excited about the coming months, if you’ve got some knowledge of the area and surrounding towns/rivers/reservoirs of some decent spots and for what species I’d love your help.
Also I purchased a pretty sizable amount of hard and soft plastic lures, spoons, cranks, stump jumpers etc that I dunno what to do with them, normally just used a padanoster rig in port Phillip bay, looking forward to what central Victoria fishing has for me and I’m keen to meet others in my area or people wanting to fish the same spot,

Welcome Chuck,
Malleestump & murlz are in your (general) area.
Running sinker, small hook & worms (all fish will take worms)
Get descent clip swivels (small), easier to change lures
Toss lures around snags, then go and buy more
Cheers Gra

Re: Fairly new to freshwater fishing
Just did a quick Google search, you have great lake fishing just next door
These reservoirs are stocked with natives and salmoniod
Cairn Curran (228,342 in 2018)
Lauriston (22,500 in 2018)
Malmsbury (9,000 in 2017, zero in 2018)
Go catch a fish
Cheers Gra

Cheers guys, I look forward to landing some.. yeah Gra there are some excellent spots that I’ve scoped our on Fishbrain just to save the locations, I’ve went to cairn Curran a few months ago when some mates came up, we went Kate afternoon, awesome conditions but not even a bite and we were using worms, stinkbaits, a few rattle swim lures and even chummed up the water but no success

I’m definitely getting the jitters to drop a line in, I took these photos of cairn Curran in June, it was decent weather, I was wearing board shorts and a hard yakka shirt, if it’s as nice as that in winter summer is gonna be wild
