is using aniseed for fishing illegal

Post by ChrisD » Mon Jan 07, 2013 12:55 pm

Hoping someone can clear this up for me once and for all - is using aniseed for fishing illegal?
I have heard conflicting stories from all sides and just wanted to get the final word on the question.

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

It is illegal to use fish roe, and frogs. The use of attractants like aniseed is not illegal.

Nothing illegal about it. My mate had a pot of burley pellets he bought from Eildon that were laced with aniseed..And I`m pretty sure I`ve had squidgy soft plastics with a distinct anissed aroma..

I have no hard evidence that it works but i collect freshwater shrimp and freeze them for later use when i can't get them. I put 6-10 shrimp in a clip lock bag and add a slug of ouzo, the alcohol lowers the freeze point and stops the shrimp getting freeze burn and turning to mush when they de-frost so they do present better and seem to get a lot more bites than plain frozen ones when fresh aren't available. I also do the same with large yabby tails and dead grubs, and have caught the odd cod on a bit of licorice strap or allsort ( a trick my grandfather showed me in the 70's)
