rod building supplies melbourne
rod building supplies melbourne
Hi all,
Wondering if any one knows of a local (melbourne) shop that sells rod building equipment, not just the few bits of repair pieces that most stores have.
Ive had a look online and can only see the rodworks and motackle that sell blanks and cork rings that i was after, i would rather buy from a local dealer as i hate buying rods if i cant feel the action first
cheers

Don't think theres to much available in melbourne mate. Rodworks based in SA or mudhole in the states. There can be some really good sales at mudhole. Theres a few facebook pages getting around that other rod builders use. Theres a fair few that post on tacklechat too.
Re: rod building supplies melbourne
Ive checked out the rodworks, the only problem is the blanks are $30 postage, and international shipping for the mudhole is worse. I was hoping there is at least a local tackle shop around that sells a few blanks

Found a post on another forum saying Noel Clark's Tacklebar in Essendon sells or can order most components... It was 3 years old though so that may have changed.

You could also try the AV forum and use their "search" procedure under rod building(ers) assuming you have done the same here, because from memory I found one or two there when I was looking to get a rod built for myself - don't have the time these days today myself..

You can try http://www.rodbuilder.com.au" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Mixture of stuff there really good for some hard to find Vintage guides tips, Gudebrod threads. Worth a try, have purchased thread from them, very good for that.

Sorry fitzy, just saw this thread.
Unfortunately, if you want to get into rodbuilding in Oz, you're probably going to have to get used to 'buying without seeing'. A lot of tackle stores can order in a particular blank, but that's about it. Like I've mentioned to you, I've got a few blanks kicking around, but it's no where near the full range that's available.
I generally order all my gear through mudhole, with the odd tidbit from rodworks and motackle. Postage is expensive, but by the time you get it to your door, it's generally still cheaper than any australian store is likely to sell it at. Although the recent drop in the aussie dollar hasn't helped. Postage only takes about a week from the states.
