Mowarry Kings

Post by scott__henning » Tue Nov 17, 2015 4:48 pm

Headed up to Eden for the weekend to chase some early kingies.

Typical, it blew 20knots just about the whole time we were there. Nevertheless we still got out.
With myself, Dad along with a few mates who had never caught a kingie, we set out on the friday and had a bit of a look around. Water was a dirty brown (think corinella) and looked horrible, due to the heavy rain from the previous days. I didn't head out far due to the 20knt+ winds and we ended up not catching a thing.

Day 2 we headed out straight to Mowarry, and immediately spotted a flock of mutton birds gliding around.
It became fairly apparent what they were looking at:

We helped ourselves to plenty of rat kings in the 60-64.5 range (frustratingly), with the elusive size fish evading us until a larger model latched onto one of the crew's microjig. This one went 76cm and was the only size fish we got for the weekend. Not that that mattered, he was pretty stoked (not that he looks it in the photo haha).

We headed down to greencape but didn't sound up anything, and it was at that point the wind picked up even more and blew us off the water.

Day 3 we headed out and got onto the rats again, before a seal came and ruined the fun. From there they wouldn't bite.
I looked elsewhere to no avail, and with the wind picking up again we headed in around 11 and headed on back to traralgon.

A pretty good weekend, I was a little dissapointed we couldn't find the the bigger fish, but still had a ball!
Won't be long before they show up down here now!

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
