Maribyrnong river fishing 2013 update.

Post by Blackfj » Sun Jan 20, 2013 7:13 pm

Thought I'd give the nong a try for some bream. Fished around angles tavern for 3 hours with only 1 hook up at 29cm. Moved to canning st bridge got another 2, 1 at 25cm and the other at 31cm. All fish released safely.

I was told that from the Anglers Tavern around to Avondale Heights is the best place to fish in the Maribyrnong. All Bream too.

The last 3 occasions I've fished the nong was unsuccessful. I went to Edgewater estate, behind vic uni, and Smith st( between dynon and footscray rd). Didn't catch anything. Was fishing mainly hard bodies sx40s and atomic crank38s around snags and structures.

Used scrub worm, but I prefer tube worm I've had good success using them. My PB is 41cm at the nong.

Pity that you would never eat anything from the Marby. Seem to have good fish in there.

Used to be able to go under the Westgate bridge years ago and fish on the rocks that are around the pylons/supports.
Im talking 25 years ago though, you might not be able to now. Dont know, dont live near Melb anymore or go there.
But boy was the bream fishing hot under there using bass yabs. Some real big ones. Would only cast out about twelve foot so the yabs were near the rocks. Made some awesome catches there back then. If you can still go there its a great spot for big bream. That was on the Newport side of the bridge.
