Fishing Report - White Beach Tasmania - 11/1/18
Went on a family holiday to White Beach on the Tasmanian peninsula, and fortunately I found a bit of time for a fish yesterday afternoon. The weather was fair, mid 20s and clear and the beach was relatively quiet for such a nice place. Strong winds had been predicted but it wasn’t too bad when I got out there at about 2pm, windy, but not too bad. I started wandering along the beach towards the river mouth in search of some flathead, choosing a few spots along the way to wade about waist deep to cast some squid out. There were little fish biting and taking the bait pretty regularly, but no significant bites. I then saw my brother in law coming in to shore on his kayak. I asked him if I could borrow it for a bit and said I could take it out as long as I wanted. I started to head out and that is when the strong winds I had heard about showed up. I was getting pushed out pretty far, and having to work fairly hard to stay put, I thought I was gonna get sent back to the mainland at one stage, but with a bit of work I managed to nestle in to a spot that was fairly protected from the wind, where I could still just see the bottom. I dropped my line and straight away got a bite. I allowed a moment of stillness and then felt a big hit and the drag ran out a bit, I pulled up and set the hook and had a pretty good fight in the wind with a 36cm flattie. Once I’d landed him I set off 10 or 15 metres and dropped my line again and in moments another one has had a go at the squid. This went on for about half an hour, with 3 undersize flatties going back in the water, 3 or 4 spitting the hook out and 3 coming back for dinner, before the wind became too threatening and i decided to turn back.
All in all, for someone with virtually no salt water fishing experience it was great fun and good to get some reward for effort. Most of my information on techniques, rigs etc came from searching this forum, so cheers everyone, it is a great resource.

Thank everyone, they were great eating.
Of course, I owe a lot to this forum for helping me learn to fish, and I reckon a lot of others would say the same thing.Pedro wrote:Good result.. Thanks for the report and acknowledging the value of this forum.
